Rockin' and a Rollin'

Riley is almost 9 months (this Friday to be exact)!!! She's still a little ray of sunshine, but every once in a while her little temper will flare up and she'll scream and kick her feet (I never new temper tantrums could start this early)!! It usually only happens when she's tired and I have to change her diaper or if she's hungry and I have to change her diaper.
She's got TWO little bottom teeth now.
She is now "officially" eating solids. I say officially because she would maybe eat a bite of jarred food but never really cared for anything I tried to give her. Now she will eat almost a whole mini jar of sweet potatoes. She likes carrots, bananas, peas, squash and pears. She, of course, prefers real food. Noodles are easy and she LOVES fruit. She went to town on a really hard piece of french bread crust at a restaurant the other night, it kept her completely occupied the WHOLE time which made dinner more enjoyable. Pretty much anything we eat we give her little bites of.

She's SOOOO close to crawling. She scoots around on her buns to reach stuff using her feet like a little rudder to go in either direction. If something is out of reach she attempts to reach and gets up on her knees and rocks a little and either grabs whatever she's reaching for or ends up rolling to it. This morning she rolled all the way from one end of the living room to the other! It's been pretty fun to see how different the girls are. Maddie was doing the army crawl at this age, and Riley is doin' the "boot-y scootin' boogy"!
Riley just learned to sit herself up yesterday morning, which has been kind of a pain for naps and bedtime because she just wants to keep sitting up! She was screaming for her first nap, which isn't normal so I went to her and she was sitting up and gave me a HUGE Riley grin. I was so excited for her! Now I have a little more work cut out for me in my efforts to get her down for naps and bedtime, but it'll pass in a few days when she realizes that even if she sits up by herself she can lay back down to go to sleep by herself as well.
Riley loves music. I think most kids and babies do, but it's so cute because she has two toys that make music and everytime she plays with them she kind of hops up and down on her buns and has her hands in the air, always smiling of course!
She loves to clank things to make noise, anytime she makes a new noise she smiles, almost like she's saying, "Oooo, I like that sound!"

Last night as I was nursing Riley I was looking at her little hands and face and thinking how big... NO, not big... how HUGE she's gotten. Then I reminisced about Maddie and how I used to hold her just like that and I got a little sad. I really miss having Maddie as a baby and I'm already missing Riley as a baby.... and she's STILL a baby!!! I know, I'm an even bigger baby but it's so hard to know that they don't stay like this forever. I'm really just trying to hold on to as many little memories as possible.
I love, LOVE, love these little girls that the Lord has so generously blessed us with. Can't wait for more........ memories!!! (you thought I was going to say more kids didn't you? Let's not jump the gun here people, I'm good with two for now!!!)

Call me CRAZY!

Ok, so our lively little 8 month old isn't crawling yet, but she's TALKING! I'm not kidding and I'm NOT crazy! (ok, maybe a little, but anyone who has kids has to be just a tintsy bit crazy...right?). So here's what she is saying:

"Hi!"
"Hey" (she picked up the phone and kept saying "Hey, hey!")
"Dada"
And the other day I was lazy to get out of bed and she was fussing so I finally dragged myself out and when I went in the room I said, "I'm sorry, are you mad at me?" and she flat out said, "Yeah!" (with a smile of course) Serious, no joke! Of course, I wasn't expecting her to respond, but from here on out it wouldn't surprise me! Do we have a child prodigy on our hands? (I'm only kidding.....kinda! ;) I guess the reason I'm so surprised is not because she's 8 months, because I think it's pretty normal for some babies her age to say a couple words like mama and Dada, but that she's saying a new word like every couple days! Is that normal? I don't know, I've only had one before her. Maddie was saying, "good girl" and "no" around 9 months, but not too much more until she was 1.

Of course, I'm still waiting for her to call me "Mama"..... We'll keep you posted on any new words!
